Hi All,

FYI:

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet.

Just got off the phone with Palsonic. They confirm that a shipment of the 86cm Palsonic 86WSHDA (86cm Rank Arena clone - RK-36HDP81) has arrived and should be available soon.

Palsonic cannot provide any specs at the time of this writing but stated that their website will be updated soon (www.palsonic.com.au).

A local retailer gave me a quote of $3100 cash.

Does anyone have any further information?

Thanks

Philby

Hi chaliebeagle

As a forum member you will have noticed that most people want to know a lot more than just price! Have you set up your big CRT? What with, what to? Do you like it? How does it compare with your expectations? Do any of the reported problems from the 76cm exist etc........
zorg
yes please tell us more when you can cb..

If this 86cm Palsonic really is a clone of the 86cm RankArena, then do yourselves a favour and buy the Thomson DTI1500HD HD-STB.

The DTI1500HD has an Auto CRT mode that gives the highest bandwidth HD video data stream possible for any STB in Australia, delivered via the W-XGA socket (Looks like a VGA monitor socket).

Auto CRT is a new generation HD video mode that displays a better quality video signal but the benefit can only be achieved with a true "CRT" HDTV which the RankArena is the 1st and only so far to the market .....the Palsonic is possibly the second.

I do not believe any of the new Panasonics nor Sony have this capability.

As Dugby has stated ...if this is the Rank clone.....and it appears to be, looking at the specs........then you really can't go wrong.

Bonus is too that you get a three year warranty with the Palsonic version.....Rank only gave the 1 year when Dugby and I bought ours.........and the price is waaaaaay better.

I have my rank hooked up the the Toshie and am happy with it (cos I got impatient and couldn't wait any longer) but by all accounts the Thomson is the way to go for the Rank / Palsonic.

Blast your patience Dugby wink.gif laugh.gif

With this tv nothing u can do with it, the reason is all the geometry cannot be adjust correctly, so i do the easy way which is calling a technician from Palsonic to fixup everything, after when he get into secret manual and do some setting, all the problem has been fix!! biggrin.gif

Hi Charliebeagle,

Does the 86cm have the horizontal lines when in 1080i/50Hz mode, like the 76cm version?

Also, do you know how to enter the service menu for the 76cm version? I can't see a "recall" button on my remote.

I think the "recall" button is this one with the 2 curved arrows. (on the right of the 0 button)

Has anyone seen the Palsonic 86cm side-by-side with the Sony 86cm?

Don't ya hate it when you go to all the trouble of organising the cash and getting the wife onside to buy a HDTV (ie Palsonic 76") and then a better version comes along and you still don't own the first one !!!!! mad.gif rolleyes.gif

This procedure didn't work for me on the 76cm Palsonic. Any chance of reviewing it to make sure the steps are right?

Have to get the horizontal linearity adjusted on my TV, the "wavy" picture is starting to annoy me on programs that scroll titles sideways across the screen.

Apart from that, and the truly bizarre menu system (systems- the HDTV one is not related at all to the normal TV one) the Palsonic is behaving pretty well. 86cm sounds nice though!

complete the steps very slowly. especially the (menu) (up)
after that . try (TEXT\IMAGE) (menu)
you will see a menu with more adjustments (like the XGA menu) but more.
the horizontal lines can be fixed in the service menu {TESTING} icon

Anyone else purchased one yet?

I noticed that the manual for this TV is now available for download from the Palsonic site. It's the same manual for the 76WSHD-A and the 86WSHD-A. I haven't compared the manuals for this and the 76WSHD yet.

I'm also considering buying one of these but would appreciate some more advice from those more familiar with them. When I took my wife and 18 yo son TV shopping, they thought the PQ was pretty poor and preferred the Samsung WS32A10. Of course the fine pitch Sony and Pana were even better, but the budget won't stretch that far. I preferred the Palsonic because of the PC input. It's difficult to convince someone that it would be a better TV if I spent time fiddling with the settings when the Sammy looked better with factory settings.

The other thing that concerns me is that the threads on this list relating to the Palsonic TV's seem to highlight more problems than just about all other TV's combined. Why is that?

to remind you all for the service menu
MAKE SURE YOU PRESS THE (-/--) until you see 3 --- on the screen
